Food Programs

Food Stamps

The Food Stamp Program was designed to help end hunger and improve nutrition and health. It helps low-income households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. The program is managed by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture. The Department of Human Services administers the program in Illinois. [more]

Women Infants and Children

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), a Federal agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is responsible for the WIC Program. WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition counseling, and referrals to health and other social services to participants at no charge. WIC serves low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk.

Most WIC programs are administered through local county public health offices. Contact 1-800-323-4769 for the nearest WIC clinic. [more]
