Each year new
donors step forward to support
Northern Illinois Food Bank’s
mission to provide nutritious food
to all those in need. The 2007
recipient of the New Donor of the
Year award is George Weston
Bakeries.
George Weston Bakeries Inc. was
founded with one purpose in mind: to
bring together, under one roof,
America’s favorite baked goods.
Delicious cakes, cookies, donuts,
wholesome breads and the original
“nooks and crannies” Thomas’ English
muffins are products from George
Weston Bakeries that have been
enjoyed for generations, and can be
counted on to make every day
special.
Giving back to the community is a
central philosophy of George Weston
Bakeries and this has been evident
throughout their partnership with
NIFB. George Weston clearly
demonstrated this commitment as they
donated over 383,000 pounds of food
to Northern Illinois Food Bank this
past year. Top notch products from
George Weston’s lineup of leading
brands that include Brownberry,
Entenmann’s, and Thomas’, are highly
desired by folks served by the food
bank who typically do not have the
money to afford quality food.
George Weston Bakeries is also a
strong supporter of NIFB’s Holiday
Meal Box program that provides a
full turkey meal with all the
fixings for hungry families during
the holidays. The 24,000 Holiday
Meal Boxes distributed during the
2006 holiday season would not be
complete without the famous
Brownberry stuffing from George
Weston Bakeries.
George Weston Bakeries do much more
than donate food; their employees
attend food bank special events and
the company has contributed over
$17,500 in support of various NIFB
programs.
Northern Illinois Food Bank thanks
George Weston Bakeries for their
generous contributions and for
helping support our vision of
creating a hunger-free northern
Illinois. We look forward to
continuing this exciting
partnership.
